Tāmata Hauhā partners with Rātana Rugby

In 2022 Tāmata Hauhā staff met with the coach, captain and management of Rātana Rugby to discuss the possibilities of joining forces and doing something meaningful together. The decision was made to be the major sponsor of Rātana Rugby and to have naming rights to the senior rugby team.

Tāmata Hauhā is a kaupapa Māori organisation committed to growing and developing small rural communities by providing opportunities and pathways to prosperity. Tāmata Hauhā is excited to be partnering with a rugby team rich in history and community driven with a passion to grow the younger generation. This partnership is a great way to support smaller communities and to promote our organisation in a positive way.

Rātana Rugby have been a long-standing competitor in Whanganui club rugby and have won the club competition several times in the early 2000s, 2011 and most recently the senior rugby competition in 2020. Rātana Rugby will celebrate 100 years of rugby in 2024 with plans to invite past and present players and their families to a special event.

Rātana rugby has been building over the past several years with the goal of going back up to the premier division in the near future. Coach Cornell Mason says the team is very gratful for this opportunity and sees the relationship as a positive move forward for the club.

In 2023 Rātana has stood up a senior rugby team as well as four junior rugby teams including rippa rugby and will in 2024 field a womens team into the Whanganui womens competition.

Tāmata Hauhā are proud to announce that we are the new naming rights sponsor for Rātana Rugby for the next 3 years.
